Sustainable Beauty: Daily Habits
you can desire to live luxuriously and care for the world at the same time.
Often times people make assumptions that if you like beauty products, you’re driven by consumerism and vanity. While this could be the scenario for some, it’s not the reality for many.
Your desires can co-exist. It’s essential for each one of us to do what we can. All these tiny efforts will add up over time and can make a positive impact on the environment.
I’ve transitioned to a mostly clean skincare and beauty routine over the years, and now I’m challenging myself to dive deeper into sustainable practices at home too. It hasn’t been easy, but little habits lead to big changes.
LA MER COTTON ROUNDS
I received these limited edition reusable cotton rounds from La Mer during their Black Friday event. It also came with a knit bag to store them in. They’re soft & thin. I use them for applying toners since they’re less absorbent.
THE DETOX MARKET COTTON ROUNDS
These are a blend of 70% bamboo & 30% organic cotton and feel more textured than the La Mer ones. I use this for micellar water to remove my makeup before washing my face. You can buy these from The Detox Market’s website for $18. I’ve tried the micellar water from La Mer ($55), but I still strongly believe that Bioderma's ($10) is the best on the market.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR REUSABLE COTTON ROUNDS
I recommend washing it immediately after to avoid stains from mascara or foundation. To wash my reusable cotton rounds, I use clean & cruelty-free laundry solutions from The Laundress – their products are nontoxic, biodegradable, and allergen-free.
If you wash the cotton pad within a day, all you’ll need is a quarter size amount of the signature laundry detergent ($22) and some hot water. I rub the cotton pad together to emulsify the soap.
How to maintain your reusable cotton rounds
If you have a busier lifestyle and can’t wash the cotton pad after every use, you can pretreat applying the stain solution ($19) directly onto the stain and soaking them in hot water for 15 minutes with a capful of the all-purpose bleach alternative ($16).
Hope this helps you with your journey to a cleaner, more sustainable lifestyle. Please leave a comment if you have any questions.
